General Music General Music for grades 6 through 8 meets twice weekly and is designed to teach a variety of school musical concepts to those students who are not part of any of the performing groups at the school. General Music students may be required to participate in various school programs throughout the school year. IMEA District IX Junior Festival
In the fall of each year, Illinois Music Educators Association (IMEA) hosts auditions for band and orchestra students to participate in a district-wide honors band and orchestra. Competition is stiff, and participation is quite an honor! Granquist Music Competition In June of each year, in conjunction with Geneva's Swedish Days, select students have the opportunity to participate in the Granquist Music Competition. This contest is held in Geneva during the summer, so parents of participating students may need to be proactive in seeking our information as well as any necessary rehearsal times. American Grands
In late January and early February at Elgin Community College, approximately 250 pianists perform on twelve grand pianos, showcasing a wide selection of different musical styles arranged for multiple pianos. There are three required rehearsals as well as one or two performances on the day of the concert. Student participant is by teacher recommendation. In 2009 we had eleven students and two teachers participate in this event.
